Having a background in coding, I wanted to strengthen my skills but wasn't sure what to expect from SheCodes. I had seen the site several times and thought, "Why not give it a try? I am a slow learner. I have struggled with creating a simple website for over 3 years now. I never understood nor grasped most of the different syntax used in HTML and CSS but I did this week. I never found a useful and organized YouTube channel to help me either. This week has motivated me to build a website for all my baking recipes over the holidays! Learning how to make a website responsive has been a transformative experience. I have been interested in learning to code for years and have tried several other courses (free and paid), none of which I completed because they either presupposed coding experience and advanced way too fast for me to keep up or because there was no support or feedback on the code I wrote so I would abandon the course if I got stuck. Matt explains everything in bite-sized chunks so I never felt intimidated or overwhelmed. The weekly homework gave me a chance to practise and solidify my knowledge. A good workshop that provided me with further insights into my learnings from the Basics workshop. Enjoyed coding and learned to use API integration to build a functional project. Courses material were structured well, learned the workflow on deploying a project, from planning to structure to development. I enjoyed learning how to overcome the errors and learn to understand the importance proper structure of codes for quick troubleshoot.
At a glance, Python can seem intimidating, but once you learn to read and code Python, it's really beautiful and fun. Matt is an excellent teacher and communicator and has made the learning process less stressful. I love that I can see that I'm surrounded by other students, so I don't feel alone in the journey.
Completing the Responsive course was a transformative experience in my journey as a web developer. Definitely a challenging course, I feel it took me a lot of time to understand some parts which could have been explained better. Going back to work on the weather project was not the best in terms of motivation, I would have preferred doing a different work. But overall there is a lot to learn for sure.
