A little bit of history π
Although the city of Eindhoven is a lot smaller and lesser known than
Paris, it is also often referred to as the city of light. And for a good
reason! At the end of the 19th century the first match factory of the
Netherlands was founded here. That's where the name originates from.
Later on in the 19th century, the well known firm "Philips" was founded
in Eindhoven. A big part of its business operations included
manufacturing and selling lightbulbs. And not only things from the past
contribute to the nickname.... nowadays you can visit the yearly
lightfestival "GLOW" and the "Lichtjesroute" (for the younger crowd).
So, "ville lumière" Paris has to share its title with Eindhoven! With
the first dutch lucifer factory, the lightbulb industry and the widely
known lightfestivals... the city shines bright all year long. β¨
Besides all the cool light events, there is a lot more to explore in the
city of Eindhoven. Are you curious and do you want to know a little bit
more about where to go and what to do? Then keep reading!π

GLOW: This is a free light art
festival in the public space of Eindhoven with more than 35 light
artists from the Netherlands and abroad. The light art projects are
connected by a walking route. In addition to major international light
artists, GLOW makes room for innovative and unique projects from its own
soil. It is an apotheosis of one, sometimes two or more years of
collaboration, experimentation and perfection. Each edition has a theme
that is given to the light artists to incorporate into their light
artwork according to their own and free interpretation.
Dutch Design Week: The event is
Northern Europe's largest design event, takes place annually at the end
of October and presents work and concepts from over 2,600 designers.
During a visit to DDW you can see and experience the design of the
future and the future of design. During the event, all conceivable
disciplines and aspects of design are discussed, but the emphasis is
always on experimentation, innovation and collaboration. DDW shows how
young and established designers from the Netherlands and the world are
shaping a positive future.

well known and typical for southern city's: Carnaval! Yes, carnaval also
exists in the Netherlands ππ» In the Netherlands Carnaval is originally a
folk festival. It falls within the Christian tradition on the Sunday,
Monday, and Tuesday immediately preceding the 40-day Lent. Carnaval
guarantees a few days of endless partying. There is a big parade with
beautifully decorated wagons, a lot of special events hosted by carnaval
associations, and a lot more. It is fun and suitable for people of all
ages! So clear your agenda and come party in Eindhoven!
