Special Olympics is the world's largest sports organization for children and adults with intellectual and physical disabilities. The first edition of the games were held on July 20, 1968, in Chicago, Illinois; while the first international games took place in Austria in 1993.
Supportive medical research and Eunice Kennedy Shriver, american founder of Special Olympics, proved that people with intellectual disabilities should participate in physical exercise to have long-lasting healthier lives.
The Special Olympics logo is an abstract but humanistic form designed to convey meaning of growth, confidence and movement aamong adults and children with disabilities.
