Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D is a superhero action packed spin-off series
based on the character, Phil Coulson, played by Clark Gregg. Coulson
is first introduced in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movie,
Iron Man (2008). The character is seen throughout five movies of the
phase one of the MCU. He is believed to have been killed in The
Avengers (2012). His death is used as a driving force to bring
together the other super-heroes so they can defeat their common
enemy. The series follows the character, who is brought back from
the dead, and answers questions of how he is brought back and why,
while he builds his own secret team to protect the world.
Themes seen in the series include time travel, enhanced
individuals, doing what is right, and finding family in an unlikely
set of individuals. There 136 episodes of the series spread out
through seven seasons. The run-time is roughly 45 minutes.
If you like any of these shows, you'll enjoy this series and vice versa.
As someone who is a huge
fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this has to be my favorite
series of the entire franchise. For most of the seasons, they tie
into the movies. So much so that if you do not stop watching the
series, to watch one of the movies, the next episode of the series
could ruin the movie for you. However, the show can be fully enjoyed
without watching the movies or any of the other Marvel television
shows.
I enjoy seeing
the character progression and how by the end of the series, they are
a family. Most of them do not have much of a family, so I feel great
happiness seeing them create their own family with each other.
My favorite character is Phil Coulson. He is such a good person that
wants to always do the right thing and never hurt anyone. But he
will protect those he cares about. He is a mentor and even a father
figure to the rest of his team. While it is an action packed serious
show, there are also funny light hearted moments such as the way
Coulson loves his car, that he has named Lola.
Personally, I have
cried watching many of the episodes because it is done so well that
you really care about the characters and want the best for them.
There have been shocking deaths and betrayals along with happy
moments. I watched the show weekly while it was on air, but I have
binged watched it a couple of times since it ended. I think anyone
can enjoy this show and stay captivated enough to watch the entire
series in a short amount of time.
