Why is SheCodes the right choice to learn to code?

SheCodes and Udemy both offer courses on front-end development with video lessons that are great for beginners with flexible schedules.

SheCodes stands out because we help our students every step of the way with our dedicated support team. Students can ask for both customer and technical support whenever they have a question. Our online community of fellow coders from around the world are welcoming and it's easy to connect with others. You never feel like you’re coding alone when you learn to code with SheCodes. 🌎 πŸ‘©β€πŸ’»Β

Structure & consistency for comprehensive front-end knowledgeΒ

Udemy has a lot of courses, in fact, a search for β€œcoding” brings up 10,000 results. This amount of choice can be confusing, especially when some courses are lower quality than others. Learners have to do independent research to find the right course for them. A few instructors have classes that are great for beginners while others require some prior knowledge. Some instructors may occasionally answer student questions while others won’t. Receiving answers to any technical questions is never guaranteed.

With Udemy, students may finish one course, but want to learn more. It can be tricky to know if another course will teach the same concepts or something new. Since you pay by course, you may have to pay for several courses to learn all of the concepts you are interested in.

With SheCodes, you don’t have to click through thousands of results and research individual instructors. All of our classes are taught by Matt, with a clear and structured curriculum to teach front-end development.Β

Homework and deadlines to keep you on track

SheCodes has an overall completion rate of 92%, much higher than the industry average. πŸŽ“ Udemy and similar online video courses only have completion rates of 10-30% for the average course.

Although our coding classes can be watched on your time, we still have challenges, homework, and final projects to keep our students on track. Busy students are always able to ask for extensions.

This mixture of flexibility and commitment has been a successful combination for our students. Most students who begin their coding classes with us go on to graduate. Our alumni go on to do great things, read some of our success stories here!Β

Technical feedback & customized projects

The best way to learn to code is actually coding! We have challenges after every mini-lesson with weekly homework and final projects. The homework is checked weekly by our tech support, who will let you know if any parts of the code need to change. Students share their completely customized final projects, which look great in any portfolio.

In courses like Udemy, final projects are often recreating webpages, resulting in final projects that are all the same and won’t impress recruiters. The courses are completely video-based and some focus solely on theory without hands-on practice, which won’t be very useful for beginner coders.Β

Already started coding with another platform?

If you’ve already taken a class or two at Udemy but still want to learn more, you’re not alone. Many of our awesome grads already finished courses elsewhere before finding SheCodes. They discover that the hands-on coding and projects offered alongside the bite-sized lessons fill in any gaps left behind by other platforms.

What else should you know?

Here's what our students say

5/5 - Highly recommended

I was feeling overwhelmed by JavaScript while learning through Udemy, but this course breaks it down into manageable chunks. The excitement of getting the JavaScript to work is real! I am excited to continue my SheCodes journey with React and hopefully a new career!

5/5 - Highly recommended

I have taken MOOCs from Udemy and StackSkills. They had exercises but they were not creatively engaging enough for me to want to return back for the lessons. Previously, I would take those lessons and build other sites from scratch, but no courses compared to Matt. I walked in with no knowledge about HTML/CSS and Javascript and now I have better retention on HTML/CSS elements. SheCodes' Slack channels is a wonderful resource where students can ask questions and receive help in reviewing code. I am definitely going to come back for the advanced workshops! Thank you so much, Matt!

4/5 - Recommended

So far, so good! I've already completed a HTML and CSS course on Udemy which was great but mostly follow alongs. I have also tried my hand at The Odin Project, which for me was a bit too intense. I feel like this is a great middle ground!

5/5 - Highly recommended

Thank you for pretty cool opportunity! I successfully used the refugee program and learned the basics of HTML, CSS, JS. In parallel, I watched courses on Udemy, but to be honest, I would have understood much longer without Matt and his great presentation of the material!

4/5 - Recommended

"Open the door to the world of coding" If it weren't for SheCodes, I might still be watching classes on Udemy, rather than actually coding. I'm grateful that the representative was friendly, when I needed to drop & pay for a Post-Graduate in Python (Data Science). I love Artificial Intelligence & SheCodes opened the door.
